Whilst wondering the vast highways of the interweb yesterday I came across Life in the Hard Shoulder. I think it may well become one of my regular reads and earn a place over on the right shortly. My only problem is I may start to get to many regular reads to read regularly soon!

I was actually searching for the kids TV program Pob when I stumbled across his blog.

Its so damn annoying when you read things like this. The Kyoto Protocol is once again being delayed as Russia tries to decide if they are going to ratify it. Seven years of faffing about for something that is only designed to reduce CO2 emmisions by a crumby 5% anyway. Do they not read things like this and realise that they need to do something now - and something BIG!!

Least some countries are making an effort.

Time for an early morning post methinks (yeah, you guessed it - I'm still trying to avoid my regrade form).

Went to see Underworld last night and quite enjoyed it. Must be the first time I have been to the cinema in a while and not come out feeling dissapointed. It actually had a bit of a plot with a few twists and turns in it - okay none that were totally shocking or anything but still. It didnt just rely on special effects like Blade 2 did. There will definitely be a sequel too - possibly bigger and better?

It was nice going to the cinema straight after work on early shit - never anyone else there at 3:30 and its cheaper too. Must do it more often.

Soooooo tired but I thought I should give an update about my weekend before I get down to todays tasks - which is mainly filling in my regrade form! I really can't put that off any longer (but I'm giving it a damn good try).

My trip up on Saturday was long, made worse by missing a connection at Newcastle by 2 minutes and having to wait an hour for the next train. I was not a happy bunny!! The wedding reception at Linden Hall Hotel was pretty darn good. I have to say, you looked stunning in your wedding dress Soph! Was nice to catch up with some of my old friends too, and to finally put faces to the names of the partners of some of those friends.

The past did indeed rear its ugly and uncaring head which I have to admit did detract from my enjoyment of the night. Still, think my total blanking of them all evening made my feelings pretty clear on the subject (I have to wonder if they ever read these posts? They do know the blogs URL. Still, do I care anyway?). I did get plenty of support from my friends tho and I really appreciate that, so if any of you are reading this - thanks! For those that had no idea what was going on, I wasn't ignoring you guys!

Sunday was good, tho long. Checked out of my hotel at 10am and then had 2 hours to kill wondering around Morpeth. Then it was a bus to Newcastle and 3 hours wait there. Had a nice look around and saw the Gateshead Millenium Bridge (plus a quick shop in HMV). A brief stop and look around Sheffield and finally home at about 9pm.

That was my weekend.

Only time for one bit of linkage today - the World Beard Championships. Its in London in 2007 - be there!!!!!

I promise I shall try and get back to posting proper piles of rubbish links next week. Maybe not Monday as I've still managed to put of my regrading form and I probably really need to fill that in on Monday (it'll take a whole day I'm sure).

After much (okay half an hour at most) searching I have managed to find the location of Breakup Babes new website. For those that don't follow BB's exploits she decided back at the beginning of September that it was time for a new blog - the next stage in the evolution of Breakup Babe if you will. I won't post the link here however as she has not linked directly to the new blog and only emailed the URL to those that requested it - and I shall respect that. She is still posting over at the old site tho and I would recommend a visit. Anyone that knows the heartache and joys (altho there always seem to be more of the first....) of trying to find the perfect partner should feel right at home....

Yawn - the end of what seemed like a week that would never end. Usually that would mean I have the weekend to look forward too right.......... nah! Tomorrow I go 'oop north to the Newcastle area for the wedding reception of an old university friend. Many old friends shall be going but also a couple of people I have no desire to see at all. What does all this mean I hear you ask, well I wish I knew.

Maybe things will be fine. I'll ignore said couple and possibly have a trouser-rippling good time catching up with people, drinking and dancing away to old 80's hits. On the other hand I could well end up sat in a dark and smokey corner trying my best to drown the horrors of it all with sweet sweet beer. Only time shall tell I think.

My only worry, that my problems will detract from the enjoyment of others - thats something I dont want to do. Wish me luck.

You know those days where after only a few hours you just want to go home, watch telly and drink many, many beers!? Well, guess what sort of day I've had........

Unfortunately one of the few beers I have left in the house (Mr K has some but I can't steal those - or can I.....) was placed in the freezer last night for a quick chill before drinking it. Said beer was left in the freezer when we went to the pub for the quiz instead. Beer will now be a beersicle. Hmmmmm, oh well, maybe licking beer gets you drunk faster?

Only good point of the day, I order 256Mb more memory for my PC. Maybe now Neverwinter Nights will play even more smoothly? Need it to now that I've got several more people hooked and dying to play a LAN session....

Worstest point of the day - seeing someone in the library that I made a bad attempt at chatting up a while ago - and being ignored.

I couldn't bear to end the day without at least some token comment. The periods of frenetic activity one minute and complete boredom the next has left me feeling highly unmotivated to post much. Still, can't leave you out there hanging with no amusing linkage....

Not much on the website yet, but these Wheelybugs look great. It would make my life at work so much more interesting - tho I'm not sure what kinda looks I'd get when I wheeled myself to the helpdesk to answer people's queries.....

Try getting marred - virtually. Hey, its the only chance some of us will get!!!

Tomorrow I intend to upload a picture of a workmate or two and make then dance boy!!

Fed up with David Blaine yet? Then this is for you.

BigBoys Balloons. Guess what this is about - go on....

This ones for the ladies so they can... you know so you dont have to sit..... just like a man would.... lifesaver apparently. Oh its called Whizzy - go see for yourself.

Ever miss your pet when you went away? Not anymore!!

I might try this tomorrow when I have more time to look (time to go home now!!!!) - its the Friday Five.

Finally, apollogies and thanks to all the sites I've blatantly ripped links from today cos I was too lazy to go find any myself - promise I'll get back to finding my own soon.

After 3 weeks of putting it off - and leaving it to the week when I'm probably more busy than any other time of the year - I have finally taken a close look at the regrading form I'm supposed to be filling in. Please someone just shoot me now!

How am I supposed to give a detailed list of all the tasks I carry out and responsibilities I have when I basically sit around on my arse most of the day? Means I have to sit down and think very hard about all the jobs we technically cover but never really do as there is no need. For pity's sake I'm not even sure what my current pay grade is and thats supposed to be one of the easy bits to fill in!?

I forsee this being a bad week.......

Whilst swimming this morning - when I finally managed to convince myself that I had to go and I had no excuse to keep laying in bed - I saw a man doing what I could only describe as the 'dead man stroke'. It basically seemed to consist of him lying face down in the water like some sort of drowned corpse and kicking his legs a little bit to propel himself slowly forward. No arm movement at all and just the occasional raising of the head to breathe.

The unusual technique seemed to worry the lifeguard so much that he came and had a good look when he started doing it, and then followed up the pool for several minutes just to make sure he wasn't really dead!!

Strange....

Being Tuesday yesterday mean't that it was pub quiz night down at the Old Horse. The past few weeks have seen me unable to answer many (ok, virtually none) of the questions and as a result feeling about as usefull as a chocolate teapot. Last night I was back on form tho. Unfortunately one of the questions was about the rating scale used for stockings and tights and I answered with hardly a pause - beating even the girl on our team to the answer - causing some curious and concerned looks from my teamates as to my apparent in-depth knowledge in the field of womens hosery.......

Speaking of pubs, whilst having a quick look for The Old Horse I found this site - Regulars Reunited. Much like Friends Reunited - just a little less popular at the minute - it lets you try and catch up with all your old drinking buddies at a particular pub. The list of pubs is fairly impressive...

I just don't see anyway of doing much more than rating the pub and submitting a photo of it tho, but worth a look and spread the word!

Bjoern over at the B-Zone has started a big health and fitness program. I wish him luck! I've been trying to stick to a good regime for ages and other than my early morning swims (which I'm amazed I'm still doing after 4 months) I never got very far. Still drinking far to much beer - lovely sweet beer - and eating too many takeaways!

My plan was to do lots of exercise so that I would look good for a friends wedding at which there shall be lots of people who I dont see very often at all, and some who I have not seen for many, many years! At first I thought "6 months - loads of time", then it became 3 months, then a month. Anyone know a good way to become ultra fit in just over a week!?!

He is a self proclaimed wheel clamp vigilante - the first in the UK - who hunts the streets at night in a blue leotard removing wheel clamps with his trusty saw. I must say he looks the part with his gold boots, mask and tight pants (worn on the outside of course - superman stylie).

He has his own website but it seems to curently be down (awwwww!).

Maybe its just my love of cartoons and comic - but I think the world needs more hero's like this!!

Well, its September the 11th but I'm not going to talk about the attacks of 2 years ago. There are many other people with stronger views than me on that subject and better ways of communicating them. I know that sounds bad but I'm not one for the politics of it all and tragic as it was I think there are so many tragedies in the world that its unfair to put this one so much higher than the rest.

Anyway, my point about the date was that the super virus that many were predicting has not as yet surfaced. And here was me hoping that it might make my day at work a little more exciting. On a similar not, be sure to download the latest critical security patch for Windows before its exploited by the next virus.....

Yawn! Seem to be overly tired today for some reason!? You'd think it might be cos I bought Neverwinter Nights on Saturday and have been playing it a lot (about 12 hours on Sunday) - plus playing it just before bed means I've had some very funny dreams which don't help you sleep. Problem is I'm stuck at the moment so haven't been playing it too much. I seem unable to get past this one point and I'm getting really annoyed that I can't progress!!! I've downloaded the patch this morning tho so hopefully its a bug and that will fix it!? God I hope so cos I dont want to have to repeat all those hours of play.....

I'm noticing this morning that Blogger has merged the free and pro versions into one. I did read on The Presurfer a couple of days ago that this was going to happen, but couldn't get into the page to see what new features that would mean I now have. Think it means I get to put in post titles - then again am I inventive enough to come up with a witty and imaginative title for every post. I think not!

Just to keep you updated on my trip to Japan - the tickets have now arrived so that part is all set. Now I'm just trying to figure out the details when I get there. For instance I doubt I will have enough time to get from Kumamoto to Tokyo before my flight back in the morning - so that will likely mean a night in Tokyo. Should be interesting but also a little scary?!

Seems to be a quiet blogging day to be honest, not much around. So in between my dull jobs I've been looking at info on Japan. This guide to Japan is very good in particular. It also has a page on Japanese etiquette which I've been paying close attention to. On top of that the power shutdown means I've been sat here in the dark for the last hour getting slowly hotter because the air conditioning is also off untill we get power back. Least my computer is still up and running - benefits of being on a different circuit...

Whilst I'm still trying to sort out flights and the like to Japan (have you noticed that I've unconciously changed from maybe going to definitely?) I wondered if anyone had any pearls of wisdom to impart to me in the meantime. Like I said foreign travel is all new to me so I want to be prepared for this trip - well more prepared than my usual 'throwing stuff in a bag the day before I leave' trick. Or you could just tell me whats good and bad in Japan. Anyway email me.

The Dream Project is a curious place where they show "...an artistic rendering of the dream landscape". Basically they draw people's dreams, people like Neil Gaiman and Rick Veitch.

Only seems to be one issue so far with 4 dreams, but maybe the project's only just started...?

Ah, you have to love Manic over at Bloggerheads - when he does things he does them with style! His latest campaign is to chase Bush out of Britain and his plan to do this - Bare Your Bum at Bush! I had to chortle.

Doubt my meagre linkage will help much, but I can but try!

Welcome to the latest instalment of 'Richard tries to go to Japan'! In todays exciting episode our hero finds a flight for just 438 quid but soon realises that it leaves so early in the morning that he's not sure how to get to the airport on time! Next he has to figure out how to book a domestic flight to Kumamoto airport which isn't easy (so many options). Will he suceeded - stay tuned.

Sorry, I'm blaming it on lack of sleep. I really am very tired. Went to bed late last night (god, when did 11pm become late - I am getting old) and then had to drag myself out of bed at 5:45am this morning, and believe me I really did struggle to get up. I can barely keep my eyes open at the moment - I think thats why I have achieved so little this morning. Tomorrow will be even worse as I have to be in work for 6:30am for a power shutdown.....

AND I went running for the first time in a week last night and strained a muscle!

Bugger, I'm confused! I dont think there are any flights with SWISS for that price, and the cheapest seems to be about £950. If I try another airline that looked cheap I get a price of almost 6000 Euros!! Help!?

Blimey, where has my morning gone!? Get in at 7am and before you know it the working day's almost over.

Although I'm not 100% definite yet, I think I am going to go to Japan. Only problem I'm having at the minute is finding a flight. Now I went to Cheap Flights and that listed a flight from Birmingham to Tokyo at a cost of about £422. Following several links from there all show these flights are with Swiss International Airlines. So, I went to their website and did the same flight search and they list a price thats a LOT higher than 400 quid!! Where am I going wrong?

Bloggage might be a little low whilst I investigate all this....

Man steals over £2 million pounds and what does he buy with it!? Lots of parrots and a house to put them in. D'uh!!

Once again "horray" for the Japanese. I think the self parking feature of this car is a bit silly, but at least they are really trying to make more environmentally friendly cars! Another good reason to go to Japan (I think this is a sign).

God I just had to chortle when I saw these fluffy bunnies. I sooooo want one of those. You could put it on the sofa when people come to visit and watch their face as your fluffy cushion starts to wander round....

If any of you are after a clown for a kids party, why not try Buffo the worlds stongest clown!! I have to admit his list of talents is impressive but I'm not sure I'd want him to turn up outside my house riding a buffalo.....

Fairly pointless visualization of people walking. I just liked seeing the difference between men and women (works best with the lines turned on).

Trying to catch up on stuff (and also a bit out of practice) so a little slow on exciting links today. Sorry.

Take a look at this picture and try to find the mans head. Under a minute and you are normal. Over that and it says you need to watch more cartoons to develop the right side of your brain. I managed 4 seconds - so maybe my obsession with cartoons does have a benefit.......

Well I'm back (on damn early shift worst luck) after having survived the trip home. Ah, guess it wasn't that bad to be honest. Not exactly a holiday but pretty entertaining. My brother and his wife had a big party for their first wedding anniversary, so all the family and friends crowded into their little house for a big p**s up. I got to be barman - which was fun as they had this new blender which was great for doing cocktails in - so it was my job to make sure everyone got nicely sloshed (especially the old folks). Learnt the interesting fact that most women seem to really like Pina Colada's so plan on making a few of those at my next party. Must be a womans thing as I thought they were a bit sickly myself....

Unfortunately the place was not packed by the throngs of young single women that I had hoped for, although a very attractive friend of my sis-in-law was there so it wasn't all bad. .

The rest of my time at home was spent reading (Steven King and James Herbert - I wasn't impressed), being fed wine and cake by my mum and reminiscing about old times. Going home always makes me take stock of my life - think its the sitting on the beach and staring out to sea or wandering around my old school grounds thinking "I used to do history in that room - god that Mr Fowler was a bastard!" that does it. As a result I'm feeling more energised and ready to go now that I'm back!!!

Yesterdays trip home was fairly entertaining as well. The train is usually boring and I was tempted very quickly into getting some beer (10:30am) which always helps ease the journey along. I decided to do some people watching to pass the time. Most fun was watching this right Herbert that got on around Bristol. He spied the table in front of me with 2 young girls and sat down straight away with this stupid grin plastered all over his face. Now I'll admit that they were very attractive girls but also obviously pretty young too (about 16/17 I'm guessing). He sat there for 5 minutes grinning and staring at both girls and I could tell that he was dying to start a conversations and sure enough he tried. Took him about 6 attempts to get them to say more than 3 words to him but you have to give him marks for perserverance! Anyway I got bored of listening to him talk about the features his mobile phone had and other such stuff after a while. I did listen in again at the end and last thing I heard him say to them as he got off the train was "I'll email you". I'm sure they will look forward to that!!
