Arty
I posted a link to
The Adventures of Seinfeld & Superman a while ago. Well if you liked the first one the next episode is out.
Here is someone creating
latte art.
A couple of animations from the Blur studio. You can't beat a bit of
Spongebob and also the story of
Aunt Luisa.
Regrets...
...I have a few. I think? A bottle and a half of wine at a party I went to last night means I'm not too sure to be honest. I was in the mood for messing about before I started drinking and the addition of alcohol didn't exactly aid my sensible side. Ah well, I don't think I said/did anything to offend anyone - much.....
Note to self - must learn to drink more slowly. Must learn to keep mouth hole shut. Must learn to not keep taking pictures of people.

Music
I nice little song by ex-python star Eric Idle dedicated to the
FCC called
The FCC Song. Not really safe for work. Quite catchy tho.
Science and the Environment
As usual if it doesn't look good for a government then
hide it. Whilst trying to claim that the UK was a world leader in reducing emissions, they had figures removed from an official report that show an 85% increase in pollutants from the airline industry and 59% for freight transport since 1990.
The issue of GM plants and crops is a tricky one, but I can see times when it is useful to create new strains of plants. For instance I didn't realize that so much fertile land is being turned into salty wasteland through irrigation, so maybe
GM crops are one answer? Notice how I didn't say 'the answer' as prevention is always better than cure. With the amount of time and effort it takes to change anything in the world nowadays tho I thing having a cure handy is a good idea....
This plan to build an
eco-friendly community in Portugal seems to me to be the type of thing governments should be pushing for and helping to make possible. Be interesting to see if it works out. I might have a look around the website of one of the
groups behind the project when I have a bit more time.
A few changes
As I said the other day I am planning on making a few new changes to this place. Part of this - as you can see above - is the inclusion of post titles. They might mess up the layout of some of my older post slightly but ah well, can't be helped.
The idea is to stop posting quite so many single link posts and start combining them into single posts on one related topic. Probably making no sense but you'll see - I hope. I may make some more layout changes over the weekend but I wanted to start inserting post titles straight away. I'll see how it goes anyway.

Sometimes you wonder how some criminals can be
so stupid.
This is pretty fun. Compose your own
cow drum solo at Barneys Barn and then watch a live replay.
From the same people, make an
exercise routine (complete with music and grunting - or is that mooing?).
My musical recommendation for today comes from the well worth a look record label
Magnatune. Its a melodic trance group called
Memories of Tomorrow - not great if you don't like trance I suppose but if you do its pretty good and worth a listen. Definitely suits my taste - electronic beats and female vocals!
It is nice to be able to come into work and listen to witty and intelligent conversations taking place around you. My minions were talking today about the removal of some old machines....
"I'll have so much more desk space"
"Where?"
"On my desk...."

Sorry for the lack of updates today. I've been thinking about a little change in the content layout for this place. Nothing major, just a slight change in the way I post things and in the way I find things to post. Currently I tend to wander aimlessly around my links list posting the odd interesting thing I come across. I think what I need to do is get an organised list of websites - possibly using the
news aggregator I've been playing around with - so that I can quickly trawl those sites and find the interesting stuff. Then I can go back to aimless wandering.
I've already added a few new links over on the right and intend to add a few more soon as part of the changes. Anyway I'm not too sure what I have in mind so I might be a little quiet for the next few days whilst I work it out. In the meantime.....
Did

Or you could forget that and just play

I see dead people. Well, their nicely named 'Death Notice' anyway. Part of the job we were given was transferring several years worth of bereavement notices over to the new system. Gets a bit dull after a while of seeing "We have learnt, with great regret...."
To cheer myself up I went to play a little basketball on the park by myself at lunchtime. Practice my shooting a bit, work off the mornings stresses, that sort of thing. Within 10 minutes I have some 16 year old lad asking if he can play with me. He claims he doesn't play much and is really bad - proven by the number of shots he misses - but I start to notice that very quickly his skills improve as he dribbles the ball between his legs and starts scoring more and more often. I'm paying close attention by this point and trying to pick up some tips to wow my friends with during our regular Saturday game.
Next thing I know this bloke with a Jamaican accent so thick I can barely understand half of what he is saying has joined us and we are playing a game of 2 on 1. The young lad - and my new team mate - seems to have suddenly acquired all sorts of skills and even starts using basketball lingo with this other bloke. Thoughts are flashing through my mind that I'm being hussled in some way but nothing comes of it. Guess I'm just paranoid.
Next time I'll take my trainers and see if I can get them to teach me a few moves....

I'm sorry for the lack of posting today, would you believe I was actually busy at work. Unthinkable I know.
A new system known as CMS (Content Managment System) is being put in place at the moment and my minions and I have been volunteered to help. Its a way to allow some of the non-technically minded departments who have no HTML knowledge to create and manage webpages easily and to give those pages a nice uniform look. No more allowing people to come up with their own hideous creations. It goes live next week and we are helping to populate the system with some of the old content.
Sounded dull when first suggested but then I go and find out that all it basically is is blogging! You log into the system, click the 'create a page' button and then copy and paste the old content over. Bit of formatting, add a picture and press publish - sorted! I felt right at home.
My only gripe is that it is a little limited. All HTML tags have been replaced by shortcuts to make it easier for the intellectually limited. For instance two asterix either side of a word make it bold. One is italic. And there is no shortcut for a page break. Do you know how hard it can be to get a layout looking right only using paragraphs!
With all these people willing to do
anything for a
GMail account don't I now regret not signing up for when when I had the chance with Blogger. Me and my apathy...

One large hangover, lots of empty cans and bottles and a big pile of chocolate money would seem to be a good indication of a successful party to me. The hangover is due to me being about the only person that was embrassing the 'cocktail' part of the party. As for the chocolate money, well that was highlight of my night when I took everyone else to the cleaners with a poker hand of 4 nines! Unfortunately I'd already gambled away all my own money by that point and had been given a loan by my friend. She now informs me that this means I'm indebted to her in some way - the terms 'complete servitude' and 'several years' were mentioned....
My cake also went down really well and is virtually all gone. The
vodka jelly seemed to be well received too.
Okay, time to think of the theme for the next party!

I bought some more chocolate for the cake icing today. I burnt it whilst melting it in the microwave. Sometime you should just know when to give up.

Tomorrow is the day of the big party and.... oh wait, a few people have dropped out the last couple of days. Lets start again.
Tomorrow is the day of the medium sized party and so I decided to bake a cake for all my hungry guests. It was the same cake I made back around
Easter but as I made a few minor mistakes last time - forgetting to add the egg at the right time, that sort of thing - I decided to concentrate really hard this time so it would be perfect. I should never have had that glass of wine first.....
It should all be so simple but before I know it I have used the milk chocolate needed for the icing instead of the dark chocolate needed for the cake. Bugger. One quick trip to the shops later and I've got some more butter but no chocolate. Okay, I can still make the cake and do the icing tomorrow. I move straight on and add the caster sugar to the egg whites - oh wait, it said egg yolks. Bugger!
One half arsed botch job later and the cake is now done. It
seems to taste okay...?
One thing I did get right today was creating some business cards for my new persona tomorrow night. See the name is a joke. Geddit? Well I thought it was funny....

I've watched this last week or so as the conspiracy theorists come up with
more and more reasons that the video showing Nicholas Berg' death is a fake. They make a good case. Do I believe it - I don't honestly know. What I do know is that if it is true it's a more repulsive act still...

I know I linked to this
dodgy Flash website the other week (and I am still not mentioning the name of the band again as I get enough search traffic from last time) but I only just realised what happens if you move the mouse up and down the champagne bottle enough! God I'm slow sometimes.
This is just what happens in the music video btw. This song will go straight in at number 1 (whenever the hell it comes out) I am telling you...

I mentioned
the other day about my friends baby sending his first text. I also said he took his first picture. I think the kids got talent but possibly needs to learn which way to point the camera....
I've never really trusted politicians but I could make an exception for the Works Minister of Nigeria. He gave out his own mobile phone number so people could
report pot holes in the road directly to him.
Did comedian Andy Kaufman really fake his own death 20 years ago and is he really
back again?
Yesterday I had an appointment with a financial advisor at the bank. All I wanted to do when I popped in last week was to check what state my account was in and maybe transfer to a better account - next minute I'm booked up for an investment consultation!
So I'm sat in a windowless little office on a boiling hot, sunny day with a man named Dave who is not making much sense. I simply wanted him to say
"Lets just reactivate your account. Have you considered maybe transfering to this account which is much better. Or maybe this one?"
Ooooh, no. After much faffing about with checking the account and photocopying forms he started more or less talking to himself.
"Hmmmm, shame you didnt come in a couple of months back. They'd count it as two now tho unfortunately. Still tax free though. So it might be best if we just transfer the bulk over but continue the monthly investments so in that way you are a year ahead if you see what I mean."
I didn't - well not until he went to check something else and I had 5 minutes to sit and replay the whole conversation through my head again several times! Just when I thought I knew what was going on he sent me upstairs with a lady named Claire who would sort out my accounts for me. She was very nice and better at explaining but after 40 minutes all I ended up doing was opening a new online current account and signing the forms needed to close my account at
Natwest. Okay so I was intending to do this anyway but I was still no closer to sorting out the savings account - the whole reason I was there in the first place!
So its back down to see Dave. He tells me that its a nice sunny day and he has all the information he needs so why don't I go and he'll sort everything out for me (translation: its 5pm and I want to go home now). So now I just have to go and sign the relevant forms on Friday - hopefully having figured out what I'm signing for first.....

I felt almost like a child on Christmas morning yesterday as I waited around for my new toy to be delivered and finally in the afternoon it arrived - my gorgeous little silver box of electronic wonder - my
Ixus 430! Isn't it shiny! I still reckon some of the very best presents you get in life are the ones you get for yourself - I mean its always
exactly what you want!
So it has loads of buttons and knobs and things that go *beep* - oh it takes nice pictures too - but there was one very small downside. I should have been suspicious when I found the power cable loose in the packaging box - a replacement for the continental one I later found in with the camera itself. It was only after I finished pressing things randomly to see what happened (as men tend to do with most things) and decided to look in the manual for the more interesting functions that I realized that it was written in German!
A little patience, common sense and the help of a
Babel Fish and I pretty much know what everything does now. I think? Did I mention it was nice and shiny?

Ooooh, I want an
invisibility cloak.
Usually I have some idea that the
Eurovision Song Contest is approaching but this year I had no idea until my housemate was flicking around on TV and happened to come across it this weekend. Its a pile of pants anyways so I'm not really that bothered. Some people are tho and the UK' entrant is complaining about all the
political voting between countries. Yeah there is some of that but it also doesnt take a genius to figure out that countries near each other tend to have the same taste in music and might just vote for each other! Besides, I've just listened to the UK' entry - its total arse! Just the same sort of boring drivel we have been turning out for years. No wonder we only got 29 points!

It seems once again that summer is here - the sky is clear, the sun is shining and the temperature is on the increase. Icecream, BBQ's, no need for coats - great! Nice as all that is there are also a whole load of things I don't like about this time of year. I don't like feeling hot and sweaty and in need of a shower only a couple of hours into the day. Having to sit inside working in a windowless room whilst outside its lovely. So many women wearing next to nothing is more than a little distracting to a single bloke like myself and makes the days seem a little, errrr... hotter!? Having to remember to put on sunblock everytime I go out - especially now my head is shaved.
What I think I dislike most about this time of year tho are the bugs! You step outside and within two minutes you can feel one of the little b*$%&rds landing on your head, arms or face and start wandering around. They start ricocheting off you like so many little tracer rounds fired by the mighty insect army! And I get so paranoid about brushing them off - especially from my head - as one wrong move and you end up with smeared greenfly adorning your face like some weird warpaint design.
Yup, I hate the bugs!

For all your
bling needs.
So dont the rest of the world
need dirt too?
A
102 year old woman falls 4 storeys and survives. Would have been a better story if there were kids in the playhouse at the time!
I was ambling around the interweb yesterday trying to kill the last couple of hours at work when I came across
this link on
Bloggerheads. It is quite an interesting article about banks and investments with some good advice but I didn't actually get past point two - find a better bank account.
Now I opened my current account about 11 years ago - just before I left for university. The lure of a gift of £15 when you opened the account was too much for a poor student like me at the time. It did what it needed to at the time, but now......?
So I do a little investigation into moving everything to a new online bank account and it seems quite an appealing idea - something I should have done years ago really.
This one in particular caught my eye and seems pretty good (plus £30 free again - woohoo). All this got me thinking about my savings account as well and I was amazed to find that I'd not touched that in 5 years!
So I'm on a new mission to sort out my finances, starting with a trip to the bank at lunchtime today to find out what sort of saving account I even have nowdays....

Knowing and seeing, two very different things. The difference is what led me to watch the full video footage for
this news story (don't worry, the link is just to the story and not the video). I wasn't sure if I wanted to watch it because I knew it would not be pleasant but I think sometimes you need to remove the protective padding from your world and see it as it truly is.

Bilgemunky.com - for all things piratey. One of the best features is the countdown to
talk like a pirate day.
The quiz finished last night and as usual we did well but seemed to lack the final push needed to get within a point or two of the winning score. We headed home and I plonked myself down in front of the computer to check my Blogshares portfolio whilst I drank a pint of water before heading to bed. The telltale buzz on my computer speakers warned me of the incoming text message before it arrived.
I pulled out my phone to find a message from one of the girls we had just said goodbye to only a few minutes before in the pub car park. Short and to the point it read.
"Argh big spider in bathroom!"
Vague memories stirred but I'd had a couple of beers and I was tired so I thought it best to ask anyway.
"You not like them?"
Again the answer was short and to the point.
"Phobic!"
Being the gentleman I am, I immediately offered to lend a hand if she needed it. She was being brave tho.
"Let u know when I've attempted to flatten it at a distance!"
15 seconds later....
"Need help!"
Before I could barely manage to reply she was at the front door. She filled me in with stories about the immense size of the hairy beast as we drove back round to her place but I was only half listening as I sat quietly debating to myself if I should catch it in a glass or try and appear the tough guy and use my hands? We arrived and I headed towards the bathroom with a (what was hopefully) confident stride. I peered around the door expecting to find something akin to one of the face huggers from Alien sat on the floor tensed and ready to leap at me but it was unfortunately far worse than that.
"Ooooh nooooo" groaned my friend from over my shoulder "its gone! Where has it gone!?"
I spent the next 20 minutes or so in a futile search for the missing arachnid - checking behind the toilet, in every nook and cranny and under every bottle of lotion and rub that was in the room. Mr Spider had vanished. Confident that she was now relatively safe I left - my job as hero completed. Until the next time.....

I've seen the torture pictures from Iraq this last week. I've seen the growing hatred for the coalition forces. I've seen the bombings and the reports everyday of how many more are dead on both sides. Through it all I've kept quiet. People like
Bjoern can do a much better job of putting their point across than I ever could, so I just watch.
Occasionally tho I like to also contribute a little. In this case I would suggest reading the latest post on
Baghdad Burning.
I sometimes get emails asking me to propose solutions or make suggestions. Fine. Today's lesson: don't rape, don't torture, don't kill and get out while you can- while it still looks like you have a choice... Chaos? Civil war? Bloodshed? We’ll take our chances- just take your Puppets, your tanks, your smart weapons, your dumb politicians, your lies, your empty promises, your rapists, your sadistic torturers and go.
Now I never saw any of

An interesting idea which I've not yet tried.
One Word is a page where when you click 'Go' you are shown a word and have 60 seconds to write whatever you like. As the page says
"the real purpose of this exercise is to alleviate our natural tendency to edit everything—and learn to flow. If I tried it I think I'd just end up with several paragraphs of badly spelt gibberish...
Mmmmmmm,
chocolate money! Actually looking for a good place to buy these from as we are having a 'cocktails and casino' party in a couple of weeks and I thought it would be fun to gamble with them rather than boring plastic chips. Winner takes all at the end of the night.....
Might not be too long before
Manic can finally get his
flying car. Bit
pricey tho!
Yesterday I saw my friends Mark and Lee for the first time in about 6 months. With them of course was the 9 month old bag of mischief that goes by the name of Ralph. Now I don't know what it is with me and kids but I seem to get on well with them and I have to admit to having a soft spot for them. Possibly not the screaming 2 month old ones but definitely 9 months and beyond. Maybe it was due to having a younger brother and three young nephews? More likely its because I'm a big kid deep down and I get to be as silly as I like around them. Besides who else but children can I talk to about which of the
Powerpuff Girls is the best (Bubbles in case you are wondering). *ahem*
Anyway, I felt really honoured as I was there for little Ralph' first word - 'noon'. Okay so he didn't actually say it out loud and the predictive text helped him out a little with spelling but it wasn't bad for his first text message! I may have given him a little bit of help selecting a suitable recipient for such a special text (Aunty Rach was most pleased) but he typed the message himself and pressed send (when I wasn't watching). Of course there was the added bonus that he didn't dribble on the phone or try to stick it in his mouth even once! You have to start them young with technology nowdays you know and I can see he is a natural. He had a go at taking a picture of himself as well but the results of that will have to wait until after the film is developed.....

A tribute to the games of old -
Hey Hey 16k. Must remember to get my old Speccy set up again next time I go visit the parents......
Because someone asked and I didn't know what it was either - all you ever wanted to know about
cream of tartar. Still dont know why it's called a cream tho....?
For the same person,
are you working too hard?
Curious to see how some things become very popular on the interwebnet. Take the song
Bananaphone which I'd never heard of till this week (maybe I'm lucky). First I happened across this animation called
Bananaphone aftermath which contains swearing, violence and quite possibly depicts what actually would happen if you listened to the song enough. Now this was probably brought about by
Badgerphone which in turn is based on Weebls old
Badgers animation. Following Badgerphone backwards you get to
this bananaphone animation.
Is anyone elses head starting to hurt?
Speaking of Weebl, check out
Kenya.
Commitment. If you ask most women they would probably say its something most men have a problem with and lately that seems to be applying to me too. I'm not talking about relationship commitment in my case - that's not something I usually have to worry about - I'm talking about commitment to anything. The last few weeks I seem to have been trying my best to avoid being tied down in any way. I won't even commit to simple things like going out for a drink - I keep all my options open and then decide at the last minute. Strange thing is I don't know why the sudden change. Maybe something deep down is bothering me? Analysis anyone?
One thing I have not had trouble commiting to is
Blogshares. When I found out a few weeks back that my account was still active I warned that I might once again become hooked on the game and it pretty much happened. I have to admit that addiction is once again starting to wane, mainly due to some game changes. I invested well my first week of playing and my fortune quadrupled. Then changes were implemented to make the game more interesting and the markets crashed. Once again I invested wisely and my worth shot up to close to 1 trillion blogdollars. I was greedy and waited for prices to rise to their old levels however and that was a mistake as they never did. Currently I'm worth about the same as I was a couple of weeks back, albeit with a much larger portfolio. Maybe its for the best.
Luckily I resisted the urgings of two people who were trying to get me to join them in the latest round of
Dawn of Myth. I had no desire to play but I know that if I'd started with round eight I would have become deeply involved once again. I'm so easily hooked - good job my short attention span means it never lasts very long!

If you've had a long day you can't beat a
really silly joke.
Check out Manic' new project -
sack Bush.
Oh, cos he asked so nicely the other day (I've only just got round to it cos I'm lazy) why not enter the
Giltsharp - Swiss Army Knife Short Story Competition. Go on, you know you want to....
Bloody hell - where has my day gone?? Just seems to have been one thing after another. Numerous people with Sasser on their laptops. A few members of staff - usually doctors who feel the world should bow down before them - that are unable to grasp the issues of data protection. Some gentle hand holding (in a non-romatic way) for the new bloke. Complaints about some of my staff being 'unhelpful', which I find so hard to believe (what do you mean I'm lying...?). Playing
Sherlock Holmes and trying to track down who might have taken a USB drive that a young lady left in a lab (full of a years worth of work - only copy of course). And finally I have to keep my eyes open for any shifty looking characters about the place after
another University had half their network kit nicked last night (might not be worth hitting the link - looks like they are still offline currently). Oh yes its been a good day.
I need a glass of wine and a long bath!
A nice animation about
Rockfish.

A man and
his hole. I'll just let you read this one yourself and form your own opinions....
(link via Bloggerheads)
I may have been quiet today but I have done 'some' stuff. For instance I do now have an
atom feed.
You may remember a while ago I mentioned in passing that the students here had
protested about student fees with a little flour throwing and blocking of roads (if you are after all the details then
this is the place to go). I never really mentioned what happened next but as it now seems to be reaching the local and national papers and magazines (like
Private Eye) maybe I should.
Several days after order was restored, the university presented a bill to the
Students Union to cover the cost. A bill for a little over £10,000. Seems fair enough, I mean if I were the Vice Chancellor and someone got flour on my car I'd want a full valet (inside and out). And of course you would need to cover the lost revenue of the coffee shop located in the building that the sit in was staged in (even tho all the protestors were getting drinks from there). Then you need to cover the costs of a lost days work for all the staff disrupted by events....
As a humble employee of the university I totally agree with their actions. As a former student......?

The Shining re-enacted by
bunnies (in 30 seconds).
Woman goes to a shop and buys
10656 Mars Bars. Well according to my calculations that's enough to help her work, rest and play for the next 29 years (give or take).
I have been following a project for at least a couple of years now called
I've Found Her. I came across it whist searching for a Mod to use with
Homeworld (the original version) and it looked like it had a lot of potential. I'd look in on it once in a while but usually would not find much had changed. Until I checked yesterday.
The basic background is that its a project done by a few fans (mostly in Russia I think?) who's aim is to create a working Babylon 5 space combat simulation game. What they have released is a 220Mb Prequel, but I can tell you that it's good! You'd not expect much from a freeware game but the graphics are as good as most games nowdays and gameplay excellent. For anyone that was/is a Babylon 5 fan (and it has to be classed as the best sci-fi series ever) this is the closest you will get to flying a Starfury!
And flying them is not easy! I have only played for a little while this morning but the fact that the game uses real world physics (mainly inertia) means the ships are very hard to fly at first. My squadron of 'furies' were dogfighting 20 or so raider craft, and the only ones I hit were the ones that flew straight at me! The rest of the time was spent sailing past them and spending the next 30 seconds slowing down and heading back the other way. A little practice needed I think....
I don't often play these sorts of games but I think its different from most you will find. I loved flying through the hail of debris from a ship I'd just blown up! Do print of the keyboard map for reference and do take part in the training mode at the beginning are the hints I'd give. Overall well worth the download I'd say!

I can feel it deep inside! An urge that needs fulfilling and is growing by the day! I'm trying to fight it but I'm not sure how long I can go for.
I need a new toy!! And the toy of choice is currently
