Busy - that's me
Ahhh, so
this is what it's like to be busy at work! Currently it's down to a combination of the time of year - once again we brace ourselves for the influx of eager young first years keen to learn, get drunk and have sex with random people - and the fact that I'm still spread out over several jobs. Whilst my new job has been officially announced to the whole department I as yet have no official start date. I could start a month from now or indeed could have started several months ago (as the whispers of delays due to back pay debates hint at).
Unfortunately no one is telling. Must be a secret.
In the meantime I'm helping to interview the candidates hoping to replace me tomorrow morning, leaving me in some gray land of uncertain job responsibilities as of next week I imagine.
Got to laugh haven't you...

Bloggerheads was down the other day but was too busy to check back. Tim is currently blogging
here after being silenced by his webhost. Here's hoping he's properly back online and kicking arse soon.

Sleepy
Why is it that when I'm really, really tired, some drunken tit decides to pass out in the middle of the road just outside my window at 1:30 in the morning so that what sounded like 50 wasted clubbers could mill about for twenty minutes talking, singing and generally trying to get him to shift his arse.
Knew I shoulnd't have stayed up past nine watching epiodes of
Family Guy...

About bloody time
Well it's only taken them close to two years of threating to do it but today the TV licencing people finally paid me a visit. Or person in this case. I'm fairly sure there is a law about lying to gain entry to a building but I wasn't really falling for the "I have a letter for you - can I come up?" line anyway.
Still I let him up and let him check to see if I have a TV because to be honest I am getting a little bored of the threatening letters from them all the time. And what does he do - pokes his head into the living room, looks around for three seconds and concludes I don't have a TV. Real thorough work there.

Gah, I hate when I realize that I've been wearing my contact lenses in the wrong eyes for a few days. No wonder I felt sleepy and blurry eyed all the time...
At least I can now watch this in full focus -
phone jacker. Made me chortle.

In the news
The news about a student being arrested and a tazer used on him at a John Kerry forum is all over the internet at the moment. This
BBC story is fairly typical of how it's being reported. Of course, things look a little different if you see the whole incident...
Apparently police escorted him in in the first place and the
raw footage shows him resisting when they try to remove him. To me it seems he knows people will be filming this and is there to cause as big a scene as possible. Why else the running commentary he gives? Why shout "Don't taze me!" instead of just doing what he's being asked to avoid getting shocked?
I actually think
this video of after the event is pretty enlightening too, where he claims they are taking him away to kill him. He's either paranoid or trying to get his story all over the net.
Looks like it worked.

My head is all over the place
Restless. Think that sums up how I seem to be feeling at the moment. Try as I might I don't seem to be able to stick with anything or concentrate for longer than about 5 minutes. Take yesterday afternoon for example. I sat down to entertain myself and started up a computer game. Got bored of that after about ten minutes. I surfed the intenet for a bit but couldn't find anything worth looking at. I sent an email or two, tried playing computer games again, did some washing up, attempted to write a blog post, surfed the internet - the list goes on. By nine o'clock that night I'd achieved nothing at all and was so bored I went to bed.
Maybe I need a new hobby.....

Back
Well that wasn't so bad I guess. Although spending an hour in a working man's club watching the parents trying to dance to 80's hits was not how I'd usually like to spend an evening out. If you've ever watched
Phoenix Nights you'll get an idea of what it was like in there....

Back soon
Well it's that time of year again - although I have managed to push it back further than ever before. I'm heading off down south to visit the folks for a few days tomorrow. Oh joy. Should be fun as my brother and wife are coming round to the parents for Sunday lunch with us but I only found out a few days ago that they are currently living apart. Bring on the awkward silences....

So the BBC back out of
Planet Relief. Not sure it's a bad thing really. I do wonder whether there needs to be more unbiased and informative programs about climate change and such like however.
Whilst playing
City of Heroes the other night I entered a zone and happened upon a heated discussion about global warming. All sorts of opinions were flying about - it's too late to change it, it's caused by the sun, it's America/China's fault, I'm playing in the dark to save energy and the world, farting cow's cause it etc..
I listened to the bad science and the incorrect assumptions but held back from correcting them - mainly as I knew half the people were likely under 15 years old and just didn't know any better. But then I wondered if these kids shouldn't be the ones that most effort is going in to teaching? After all, their generation might be right at the forefront of any coming problems. Give them the facts for and against global warming and let them decide. Make sure they know that a sustainable life isn't just about trying to stop the world getting hotter but making it cleaner and destroying less of it.
As green issues are entering the mainstream more and more now - I noticed a carbon footprint next to the nutritional values on my packet of crisps the other day - maybe it won't be long before this becomes a school subject anyway?

In the news
Cop uses a segway to catch a gunman. He'd have been buggered of course if there had been any steps involved in the chase.
He'd have never caught

Drink and the Devil
Those were pretty much the theme of yesterdays wedding.
As weddings go, that one could definitely be called interesting. I've not been to hundreds of weddings but I'm fairly sure talking about death, the breakup of Charles and Diana's marriage due to Camilla and the inherent sin in babies during the ceremony is not standard practice. I liked when us non-believers we're told we'd better repent or miss out on eternal life. Still, he did say you'd be forgiven no matter how late you repented and regardless of what you'd done so I plan on getting in a good bit of sin for a while before a death bed conversion.
Made a good start on the sin front at the reception I feel. Seeing how many unopened bottles, cans and table chocolates (28 chocolates if you're interested) I could get in my pockets before we left. Least we stopped one of our crowd taking the table flowers - complete with vase of course.
Must say the bride looked stunning tho and the groom - well I don't think I've ever seen him act sensible for that long before. Not to mention his speech which had a couple of the women on our table in tears it was so nice!
