Interesting story this, a couple paid for a flight from US to UK by collecting cans and recycling them for Tesco clubcard points.

Now if you are wondering, it works out that they collected 60,000 cans. Given the cost of their flight, that means they got just under 0.5p per can which (sadly I already knew) is about the going rate for scrap aluminium cans.

If you are wondering how I knew that, someone emailed something to me last week about how much £1000 of beer would be worth if you recycled all the cans. Twas total twaddle and out by about a factor of 50 but I went to the effort of working it all out…

Anyway, shows what a little effort can do.
