It’s a sad week for me. After almost four years, I’ve canceled my subscription to CoX.
“So?” you are probably thinking. Well, like I said I’ve been playing for almost four years – albeit with a few small breaks. In the first year alone I racked up well over a thousand hours of play so I dread to think how much my combined total is! But there comes a point where the enjoyment just isn’t there anymore. Like the gambler putting more coins into the slot machine, you almost feel compelled to keep playing to justify the time you’ve already spent and make sure you don’t miss out on anything. Not that I can’t go back if I want – maybe 6 months down the line I’ll start developing a craving for virtual spandex once again.
If you’ve ever been tempted to try online gaming but have been a little unsure where to start then I’d definitely recommend City of Heroes. The people are generally more than willing to help and offer advice to new players (just keep in mind that a lot of kids play these sorts of games so don’t judge them too harshly for overuse of text speak) and the game itself is improving all the time. Whilst you can log many hours of play a day, it’s not a requirement for a good time. You can play alone if you wish but the real fun is teaming! And any game where you can create a character that goes around arresting villains with a shovel (like a certain film character) has got to be worth a look, right.
As for me, it’s off to virtual worlds anew!
