I read this article today and was introduced to Baclofen for the first time. For those that don’t want to read the whole article, there appears to be strong anecdotal evidence that Baclofen can ‘cure’ most people of alcoholism and various other addictions (something to do with changing the reward response associated with drink/drugs/food etc). It’s a shame most people with addictions have never heard about it.
I couldn’t help but think about Mr Poons as I read the article. I is almost a year now since he took his own life and whilst alcohol was not the only cause, it was probably a big part of it. The medical world faffs about with talk of double blind trials and the like to confirm the drug works whilst in the meantime good people like Poons suffer when there may have been no need.
